What we believe

We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, as stated in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We believe in one God who created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). He designed men and women to be in perfect relationship with Him. However, this relationship was fractured when sin entered the world through humankind's rebellion against God (Genesis 3). Now, all of us experience the world's brokenness in our relationships with God and with one another (Romans 3:23). But God demonstrates His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus, the Son of God, lived the perfect life and took the punishment for humanity's sins when He died on the cross. He was resurrected and sits at the right hand of God, and by believing He is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead we can have eternal life (Romans 10:9). We are Christians not because of what we have done, but because of our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. We have hope in knowing He will return to reconcile all things to Himself (Colossians 1:20) and creation will finally be made right as God will dwell with His people (Revelation 21).

The BSM is a ministry of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. We therefore affirm the mission, vision, values, priorities, and beliefs of Texas Baptists. See a more detailed explanation of these beliefs here!

We affirm the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles' Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

      creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

      was crucified, died, and was buried;

      he descended to hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

      He ascended to heaven

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

      the holy catholic* church,

      the communion of saints,

      the forgiveness of sins,

      the resurrection of the body,

      and the life everlasting. Amen.
